Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to be a member of 1st United Methodist Church?

No, everyone is welcome. 1st United Methodist Church is our loving ‘host church’. Celebrate Recovery is as an outreach ministry of the church and a service to the community. Many of our attendees and volunteers attend other churches.

Can I bring children?

Yes, child care is provided beginning a few minutes before the start of the worship service at 6:30 pm.  Child care is for children 12 and under.  A volunteer at the welcome center can assist you in finding the child care area. For youth 13-18 years-old, we have a program during small group time at 7:40pm.

OR if your kids are age 5 or older, they can sit through the first half of the worship. They will be dismissed right before the message.

Our staff is loving, professional, background-checked and equipped with Safe Sanctuaries training. We will always have 2 or more staff in a room. Children will have age-appropriate toys and activities.  If you have any questions, please contact the director of 1st Kids Ministries,  Kristi Alton, at kalton@1stchurch.org

Do I have to be there the "whole" night? (Wednesdays- 5:30 Dinner, 6:30 Worship, 7:40 Groups)

All parts of the service are optional. You can stay for just the service, or you can join us for dinner beforehand and the service or just come to the small groups.

Is this the same as Alcoholics Anonymous?

We do use the 12 Steps of AA as one of our daily tools for recovery. What makes Celebrate Recovery a little different is that we recognize Jesus Christ as our higher power, and we work with both alcoholics and individuals struggling with hurts, habits and hang-ups.

Do I have to know the Bible to attend?

No, you don’t need to be familiar with the bible before attending. You will find yourself learning about it during our service. Also, we have many new believers attend so you wouldn’t be the first. Even life-long Christians learn things at CR! This is a great place to get an introduction to God’s word. We’d be honored if you take that first step with us. Click here if you are a  New Believer.

What if I’ve never been to church?

Our service is casual and easy to follow. Many people have made this their first service, or have started attending after not going to church for many years. Come as you are.

Do I need to sign up to attend?

No registration or sign-up needed. Join us any Wednesday at 804 Montvale Station Rd. Maryville, TN. Check out the Visit Page for more info.
